Join us for AANHPI Day at the Capitol on Thursday, May 9th!

APIAVote-MI and Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission (MAPAAC) are excited to announce our upcoming visit to Lansing on Thursday, May 9, 2024, to mark AANHPI Heritage Month.

This presents a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with legislators on vital social and economic concerns affecting the Asian American community in Michigan. We will gather in the House or Senate Gallery to be acknowledged by our representatives, followed by an enriching Capitol tour. We will be joined by several elected officials and community leaders.

We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating our vibrant AANHPI heritage. Let's unite our voices, affirm our presence, and revel in our cultural legacy at the MI State Capitol!

AANHPI Day at the Capitol is an annually held event that provides a platform for members of the AANHPI community to engage directly with their legislators and community leaders. Participants share personal stories, discuss policy proposals, and highlight important community issues. The day's activities include personal visits with legislators,  formal  recognition in the House/Senate galleries, celebrations of AANHPI Heritage Day with presentations and entertainment, and a casual lunch for professional networking. AANHPI Day serves as a crucial opportunity for civic engagement, advocacy, and celebration of AANHPI heritage.

Join us in empowering Michigan’s Asian American community and make our state a better place to live for everyone.

Asian Americans are a diverse community with people from dozens of countries and cultures. APIA-Vote MI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group that educates, strengthens, and mobilizes the Asian and Pacific Islander American community in Michigan.

At APIA Vote MI, we believe that people power and community connectedness are what make democracy run. We want everyone to have a stronger voice in our democracy, as voters and as leaders.

Our Voice Counts

Together we empower Asian and Pacific Islander American communities across Michigan.

Our Efforts

Through candidate forums and voter registration efforts like phone banking, tabling, and canvassing, APIAVote-Michigan strives to increase civic participation and make sure our communities have equal access and opportunity to their vote.

Why do we vote?

To Fight AAPI Hate.

In the midst of a pandemic, many Asian Americans are experiencing increased xenophobia. We mourn all whose lives have been taken away due to violent acts of hate and racial discrimination. We seek to build a more inclusive, equitable, and just society in their honor.

Our team is committed to doing our part to ensure that everyone, no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, or differences otherwise, is treated with respect and dignity. We will continue to use our platform to raise awareness and advocate for social justice.

We vote because we demand our voices be heard, and we demand change to be made.
